I am interested in how the human mind works, the unconscious mind in particular. I wish to explore how repressed emotions can be triggered by the visual and how repressed desires can fester into fetishes. I’m trying to depict the unconscious mind. In my work I have distorted the human body to a point of unfamiliar recognition. The arms, legs and head are in the traditional places but there is something foreign or alien about it. I want to create a sense of unease in the viewer. It is important to me that the subject matter appears to be neither male nor female – it is somewhere or something in between, suspended in a space unfamiliar to our perception of reality, a mutated form of a human, symbolising the twisted nature of our unconscious. The figures have neither faces nor eyes thereby allowing the audience to voyeuristically consume without being seen.      For other works click here.
